How to use PhenoMap
The PhenoMap browser provides unified views of study publications contained in GWAS-related databases annotated to a range of ontologies. For details on the database sources and ontologies, see PhenoMap Content.
Browser
The PhenoMap browser provides a hierarchy diagram of a single ontology which can be explored by expanding terms, and visualised with drag and zoom functionality. Terms are represented as nodes, and the relationships between them are displayed as edges.
Selecting a node updates the publications panel (on the right of the screen) and presents the GWAS publications annotated to that term, its descendent terms, and all mapped terms. Links are available to the study publication entry in PubMed and the database entries for that study.
Note, that if a database does not support direct study linking, then the link will take you to the database’s search page.
Term search
A word or phrase submitted to the PhenoMap term search is queried against all selected ontology terms and synonyms. The output is displayed across three panels:
- The left panel displays the ontology term hits grouped by exact matches and similar matches. Hits are made if the query term matches an ontology term or synonym, and a GWAS is annotated to the term.
- Selecting a term from the list updates the middle panel that displays a diagram of the ontology hierarchies. Hovering over a selected term highlights the corresponding node in the diagram. Selecting a node opens that node in the Browser.
- The publications panel on the right of the screen is updated as terms are selected. GWAS publications annotated to that term, its descendent terms, and all mapped terms are displayed. Links are available to the study publication entry in PubMed and the database entries for that study.
Note, that if a database does not support direct study linking, then the link will take you to the database’s search page.
